Headshot Sessions at the Gateway Media Arts Lab

I love hosting headshot sessions at the Gateway Media Arts Lab. The Lab is a multi-use space for creatives located in my city of Mount Rainier, Maryland. It has an event/co-working space, artist studios, an editing and audio recording studio and a dedicated atelier for fashion designers. 

The upper floors of the building are live in/work lofts for local artists. Check out the Mount Rainier Artist Lofts website for more details about that program. 

I typically turn The Labs conference room into a small studio for my sessions. The conference room is located across the hall from the fashion designers so I like to think it’s a source of inspiration for my clients. I will have to ask future clients if this assumption is true.. 

Anyway, the space is perfect for my bright white, middle gray and dark black headshot setups. 

Upon arrival you can get settled while I walk you through the details of your session. My gear will already be setup so we can get right to work.

I like to create relaxed, low pressure environments during portrait and headshot sessions and I prefer natural expressions from headshot recipients. We will take a few test shots to help you get acclimated to being in front of the camera and review initial favorites on a laptop so you have an idea of what’s working and how the session is progressing.

Getting your new headshot is going to be a lot easier than you imaged.

Gateway Media Art Lab Details 

Parking

Ample (and cheap) street parking is available along Rhode Island Avenue and 34th Street. 

The Lab is also across the street from two great restaurants; Pennyroyal Station and Era Wine Bar. Both are critically acclaimed and worth a visit. Alcohol can puff up a face and food can stain a shirt, so I recommend visiting them after your headshot session. 

Covid Protocols

I am vaxxed and boosted and I love to mask up in indoor and crowded spaces. I also have a toddler at home that is ineligible for a vaccine, so I take Covid protocols very seriously. Your headshot session will take place in the private, enclosed conference room of the Gateway Media Arts Lab and you will only be asked to remove your mask when you are ready to step in front of the camera.
