Tom Pollard’s Headshot Session

A useful addition to any job application.

Tom Pollard contacted me for a new headshot that he planned to use for job applications and his resume. He requested a simple background so a Standard Session at my Gateway Media Arts Lab location fill the bill perfectly. 

Tom works in medicine so he decided to keep his wardrobe professional with a jacket and tie. 

He quickly acclimated to being in front of a camera. Like some headshot recipients, he didn’t have a preference for one side of his face over the other, so we tried both. After an initial review of the test images, we both agreed that facing camera right was the best option and the winning frames quickly emerged after some fine tuning of his pose and expressions. 

I finished up the session with a lighting setup that created more contrast on his face but Tom preferred the look of the softer, less contrasty setup that we started the session with. It’s great to get it right, right out of the gate. 

Tom was out and on his way within an hour with two great new headshots. I love making images that help people feel confident when pursuing their next steps, whether it’s job applications, social media profiles or marketing materials and media collateral.
